Garage doors aren’t often the first thing that comes to mind when we think about hazards around the home. If not properly managed, these doors can pose a serious threat to your home, especially older models.

Keep Clear of Doors in Motion

The following scenario is likely to have happened to you: you pull your car out from the garage and realize you forgot something. You get out of your car and start running inside to get the items you need. As you make your way back to the car, press the garage doors switch. You plan to get out as soon as the door closes.

While this is a common practice that many people have, it can be dangerous for some. We strongly discourage this behaviour.

• Just one mistake is enough. You run to get out the door before it closes. There is always the possibility of you tripping over your shoelaces or slipping on something slippery. You might be able to make it out safely 19 of 20 times, but one trip could spell doom.
• Your kids might copy you. If you do this regularly, it will set a negative example and your children might follow suit. Your children may see you confidently and quickly escape from the descending garage door. If they do, they might think it’s easy and then try it.

As it opens, you should avoid entering the garage door. Although it may seem safer, the garage door’s safety sensors can be confusing if you go over the threshold. Although the door will likely stop once it detects you, there is always the possibility that something more serious might happen with the safety devices. It could start to descend again, which can cause serious injuries.

Perform Proper Maintenance

You simply need to cut it to the right size and then insert it into the grooves. You should keep the flange at an angle on the inside.
• Keep all moving components lubricated. Your garage door’s lifespan will be extended if you spend only 10 minutes each year greasing its components. Spray lubricant is used for overhead springs. For the opener’s screw or chain, you can use white lithium grease.
• Inspect your cables. You should inspect your cables closely to check for broken strands and damage at the bottom. Get a professional to repair them if necessary. Handling these cables can lead to serious injury or even death, as they are subject to extreme tension.
• Clear the tracks Check that there are no obstructions on the tracks on either side of your door. A level can be used to check that the tracks are straight if you want. If they are not, it is best to hire professionals to make the necessary adjustments.
• Inspect the door. You will also need to maintain the garage door. Doors made from wood should be inspected for damage such as warp or water. Also, peeling or chipped paint must also be checked.    This detector can be found about six inches above the garage floor at the bottom left and right. It will detect any object that is in its path and stop it from moving. This mechanism can be tested by closing your door and putting your leg in the direction of the door.
3. Emergency Manual Release
   The emergency manual release, a red handle attached to a rope that hangs from the door, is for use when the door is not working or if there is someone trapped. It will release the garage door opener when it is pulled. This is the most important feature of a garage door, so make sure to check it frequently.
   

Practice Garage Door Opener Safety

A large garage door can be moved up or down using a push button. This is not just convenient but also extremely satisfying.

If you think about the joy that an adult can get from this experience, imagine what it would be like for a child. This is why parents often give their kids the remote so they can have this experience. It’s not the best idea to give the remote control to your kids, even when you are watching.
